Abstract:

The beginning points of Imam Khomeini's struggle against the dictatorial regime of Shah had been stretched over decades and not limited to a certain or specific time period.

However, the current thesis examines struggle and stances of Imam within a limited period and over some past few years prior to the victory of the Islamic revolution.

But this all does not necessarily mean that the Imam took a stand against the Shah regime only during that certain period.

Rather, it is in terms of the importance of Imam Khomeini’s strategy, which has been establishing an Islamic-democratic system, was realized at this juncture.

In the introduction part of the thesis, the author has stated the detailed research plan and explored answers for main questions and the hypothetical basis in this regard.

The major question of the research has been about religious basis of Imam Khomeini's stances in this political period or era, which is consist of final years leading to the victory of the revolution.

The brief answer is that Imam attached significance to the principles of religion, such as confronting the rule of Taghut, the evil powers, and the "principle of tackling oppression and standing for justice".

Religious principles are discussed in form of three axes

1) The principle of confronting arrogance or the sanctity of appeasement with the rule of evil powers.

2)  The use of principle of oppression and justice.

 3) How to take advantage of opportunities to form an Islamic governmental system.

It is worth-noting that the Imam relied on these principles in various situations.

Therefore, Imam’s concern regarding the eradication of the rule of Taghut and the fight against oppression is revealed. Besides he intended the expansion of justice.

Another most significant question which remains to be answered is if Imam had not been a religious reformer, would he still have been obliged to uprise against the then tyrannical regime or not?

Imam took practical steps to establish and implement the principles of Islam in an Islamic country in the light of religious principles.

By denying the status-quo, Imam made best use of every opportunity to reject the monarchy and by explaining the logic of Islam; he always emphasized the irrationality of the tyrannical system.

No doubt, Imam also conveyed the message that the logic of Islam has been the logic of humanity and God-centeredness.

This is while the logic of the king or the tyrannical regime is the logic of force and bayonet.

Finally, taking advantage of the opportunities to form the Islamic government, he took a stance of non-compromise with the Shah in the form of a public mobilization.

The causes and factors of creation and the developments of that certain era and finally the relationship between the government and the opposition were examined.

The different circumstances such as economic, social and political surrounding that era have been are discussed in detail.
