Supreme Leader Pays Visit to Imam Khomeini's Holy Shrine

Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran has paid a visit to the Holy Shrine of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.

The guardian of the holy shrine, Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the Imam also accompanied the supreme leader during the spiritual visit on Wednesday.  

The visit came on the eve of the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s historical return to the home in 1979 after 15 years being in exile.

Ayatollah Khamenei recited Surat Al-Fatiha (the first Surah of the Holy Quran), maintained prayers and paid tribute to the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

His eminence later also reportedly visited the tombs of a number of martyrs in Behesht Zahra cemetery and prayed to God to bestow upon the martyrs an elevated position in the Hereafter.

Holy shrine of Imam Khomeini is located on suburbs of Tehran and visited by thousands of devotees from around the globe each year.
