I cannot recall exactly whether it was the early days of our marital life or perhaps the first few weeks or month when the Imam had told me that: “I shall not interfere in your matters and you can buy clothes and wear them just as you wish. However, what I want from you is that you perform the mandatory religious duties and desist from the inviolable acts – meaning that you should not commit sinful acts.” He was not too concerned about the preferable ‘Mustahab’ religious acts and neither did he interfere in my affairs nor in my interactions and meetings with my friends and what time I left the house and what time I returned home so that I lived much the way I wanted to. He was busy with his studies and lessons while I was busy with my own work.
